Company Toast- from Christine Costabile
1 stick butter
1 Cup dk. brown sugar
12 slices white bread (I like the thick texas toast)
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
2 Tbl. white sugar
1 tsp. each - vanilla and cinnamon
(strawberry, raspberry, apricot preserves) optional
*another option I often use, when not using preserves, I cut French bread into thick slices and line those to fill pan in place of sandwich bread)
Melt butter in 9X13 pan. Add brown sugar. Place 6 slices of bread in pan (at this point - if you want - spread preserves on top of bread slices - it's good but not necessary), then top with remaining 6 slices of bread. Mix eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in blender. When mixed, pour over bread. Cover with foil - refrigerate overnight. Bake 375 uncovered for 45 minutes...cut in diagonal slices and serve warm with syrup and fresh fruit if desired.
Welcome to my recipe blog! I hope I can give you some inspiration to try some new recipes. I started this because I was feeling in a rut with my cooking. When I would find a new recipe online I was saving the page but then my bookmarks were overloaded. This is an easier way for me to keep them organized AND to share them with my friends and family. I typically create a monthly menu that includes links to the recipes on here. I have not figured out how to upload my menu to the blog but if you are interested, send me your e-mail and I will get it to you. We are pretty plain eaters around here so nothing fancy but it's mostly kid friendly that way.
If you try a recipe, please leave a comment on how it was. Any advice or tips for that recipe would be great too.
Happy Cooking!
